How to choose a suitable chuck

Dec 20, 2023Leave a message

In order to achieve better accuracy and stability in machine tool processing, the chuck has become an important "plus point". There are currently two main categories of chucks on the market: domestic chucks and imported (Taiwan and foreign) chucks. In terms of domestic chucks, Zhonghuan (Global) in Yantai and Hohhot occupies a larger market share. Others include Changzhou Kebol, Changzhou Ubit, Changzhou Beidefu, Changzhou Mingka, etc. Taiwan's chuck sales account for 60% of the imported chuck market, and South Korea also has a considerable share. Original Japanese, European and American chucks are mid-to-high-end products.

According to the number of chuck jaws, it can be divided into: two-jaw chuck, three-jaw chuck, four-jaw chuck, six-jaw chuck and special chuck. In terms of power, it can be divided into: manual chuck, pneumatic chuck, hydraulic chuck, electric chuck and mechanical chuck. Structurally, it can be divided into: hollow chuck and medium solid chuck.

In fact, domestic production technology is fully capable of producing high-quality chuck products, but the main problem lies in the large gap between heat treatment and detailed processing and imported chucks. Coupled with the large user base and fierce competition in the domestic market, manufacturers have to control product costs as much as possible and exchange for lower selling prices in exchange for market competitiveness. This has led to some common problems with domestic chucks, such as poor stability, short service life, and short retention time of repeatability.

Most imported chucks ensure stable chuck repeated clamping accuracy and long service life due to their strict process. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for. The price and technical content of the three types of chuck manufacturers in China, Taiwan, Japan, Europe and the United States are arranged from low to high. Among them, Taiwan's chuck has achieved the world's advanced technical standards at a reasonable price, and its 60% import share proves its market acceptance.

In order to ensure that the lathe chuck can still maintain good accuracy after long-term use, lubrication becomes particularly important. Incorrect or inappropriate lubrication will lead to abnormal function at low pressure, weakened clamping force, poor clamping accuracy, abnormal wear and jamming, etc., so the chuck must be lubricated correctly.

First, apply molybdenum disulfide grease (black in color) at least once a day, and drive the grease into the chuck oil nozzle until the grease overflows the jaw surface or the inner hole of the chuck (the inner hole protective sleeve and the connecting nut), but if When the chuck rotates at high speed or a large amount of water-based cutting oil is used for processing, more lubrication is required, which must be determined according to different circumstances.

Secondly, be sure to use an air gun or similar tool to clean the chuck body and slide surface at the end of the operation. What you need to do next is to remove the chuck, disassemble it and clean it at least every 6 months. Keep the sliding surface of the clamp jaw clean and lubricated to extend the life of the chuck. And use anti-rust cutting oil to prevent rust inside the chuck, preventing the chuck from rusting and reducing the clamping force, making it impossible to clamp the workpiece.

Equipped with a suitable chuck, the CNC machine tool will be even more powerful. When selecting, manufacturers must tailor their selection according to the actual situation of their own products, so that they can play a better role.
