What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Heat Shrinkable Tool Handles?

Mar 16, 2023Leave a message

The heat shrinking tool handle adopts the technical principle of thermal expansion and cold shrinkage, and is heated by the induction technology of the tool handle heat shrinking machine. Through high energy and high density induction heating, the tool can be changed in a few seconds. A cylindrical tool is inserted into the expansion hole of the heat shrinkable tool handle, which has a large radial clamping force against the tool after cooling.

If the operation is correct, the clamping operation is reversible and can be repeated as many times as necessary. The clamping force is higher than any traditional clamping technology.

Heat shrinkable tool handles are also known as sintered tool handles, heat expanded tool handles, etc. It can achieve ultra high precision machining, complete clamping of the tool in 360 degrees, and improved accuracy and rigidity.

According to wall thickness, clamping tool length, and interference, heat shrinkable tool handles can be divided into three categories. Standard type: standard wall thickness knife handle, usually 4.5mm wall thickness; Reinforced type: wall thickness up to 8.5 mm; Light weight: wall thickness: 3mm, wall thickness of thin-walled tool shank: 1.5mm.

Advantages of heat shrinkable tool handles:

1. Can be quickly loaded and unloaded. By heating with a heat shrinking machine, the installation and clamping of the cutting tool can be completed in 5 seconds with a high power of 13KW, while cooling takes only 30 seconds.

2. High accuracy. The tool installation part does not have the nuts, spring chucks, and other parts required for the spring chuck, which is simple and effective, with stable cold shrink clamping strength, and tool deflection ≤ 3 μ, Reduce tool wear and ensure high accuracy during high-speed machining.

3. Widely used. The ultra-thin blade tip and rich handle shape changes can be applied to high-speed and high-precision machining and deep hole machining.

4. Long service life. Hot loading and unloading operation, even if the same handle is loaded and unloaded more than 2000 times, the accuracy will not change, stable and reliable, and long service life.

Disadvantages of heat shrinkable tool handles:

1. Need to buy a heat shrinking machine, there are thousands to tens of thousands of them.

2. After several thousand times of use, the oxide layer peels off and the accuracy slightly decreases.
