What Is THE Difference between eR collet and OZ collet?
Both collets have slots in them to allow the collets to compress when the nut is tightened, thereby clamping the tool's shank.
However, the location of the slots varies. Note that the OZ slots only come from one end - they both start at the top - while the ER slots start at the top and bottom.
The OZ slot extends only from the top, so when the OZ collet is compressed, the collet only folds inward at the bottom. This makes the clamping force uneven along the length of the tool, weakest at the rear. This is tangential clamping.
ER slots extend from the top and bottom so when the ER collet nut is tightened, the collet compresses evenly along the length of the tool holder. We call this uniform clamping.
